The project “Development of a real-time environmental impact assessment application for the production of agri-food products and support for certification schemes” was funded by the ” Innovation Investment Schemes” Action of the Central Macedonia Region within the framework of the Operational Programme “Central Macedonia 2014-2020.” The objective of this Action is to support research, technological development, and innovation, as well as to promote investments in the priority areas of the Research & Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3).

The total budget for the project is €399,350, of which the public expenditure amounts to €357,660. It is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union (EU) and Greece under the Operational Programme “Central Macedonia” 2014-2020.

The project is being carried out by Engineers For Business S.A. and the Sustainability Engineering Lab (SEL) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Its duration is 36 months.

The Project

The Project

In the international business environment, but also at the local level in RCM, the debate on building a sustainable and green future is intense. In the EU, there are targeted initiatives such as the Integrated Product Policy and the European Green Deal for environmental protection and sustainable development. It is proposed to develop an environmental impact assessment tool for agri-food production, based on real-time data. The tool will be used to improve environmental performance, product certification, but also for strategic planning and capital investment evaluation. The tool will contribute to achieving a more sustainable and sustainable future nationally and internationally.

The Tool

The Tool

The sustainability characterization and certification tool for agri-food products effectively addresses the problems of existing systems, offering personalized results and taking into account real-time data at all levels of the supply chain. This innovative tool is expected to be ready for market release at the high technology readiness level (TRL) 9 after the end of the project. The tool offers significant advantages over existing technologies, promoting sustainability, and is aimed at farmers, agronomists, consumers and businesses in the agri-food sector. The main objective of the innovation investment plan is to strengthen agricultural activity through the use of advanced technology, promoting productivity and entrepreneurship, while offering opportunities for sustainable development and improvement of agri-food products.
